For beautiful bird photos, it is hard to beat Ann Cook's website, Birds of Manitoba
Although written for film photography, a great technique book that I read early on was John Shaw's Nature Photography Field Guide
Image Processing And Printing
By far the most helpful site I found when struggling with processing and printing was Norman Koren Photography. He is also an outstanding photographer; check out his images.
Not a link, but I also found Photoshop Elements Solutions by Mikkel Aaland very helpful as a beginner.
For a very powerful, yet relatively inexpensive. image processor check out Picture Window Pro.
I currently use Photoshop. If you can afford it, it is the best.
